Update on The Ryan McLean Fund

I had a meeting this morning with Dave Denniston. Dave is the former NCAA Champion from Auburn and World record holder in the 200 breaststroke. We discussed different avenues for us to help Ryan in her pursuit to raise funds for her operation. It is up to the swimming community to come together and help this young lady. I am seeking your help with this, I am asking my fellow coaches to approach your teams and make this a project to aid a fellow swimmer and coach. We have asked Colorado Timing Systems to take part in this venture and are awaiting their decision.

Dave is now training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs under his former Coach Jim Flowers, and as Dave put it, “ten years later he is teaching me to swim all over again”

Dave told me about his involvement in the Paralympics and here is a Quote from Dave’s web-site:

My main goal and purpose for this endeavor is not for fame (I’m already famous for breaking my back on a plastic sled!), but because I want to bridge the gap between USA Swimming and USA Paralympic Swimming. Paralympic swimmers in Australia, Britain and nearly every other country are held in the same regard as their National Team athletes. In England, two of the Paralympic swimmers are more recognized than most of their National Team. That isn’t the case in the US and I think it is unfortunate. Therefore, I hope to be an athlete liaison of sorts between the two organizations.
That, and representing the USA is still a dream. So, back to work.

  1. Awesome post! You guys are doing great things and I wish you all the best. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help you help other swimmers who are going through real life challenges. I read Dave’s website and he’s truly inspiring!
